The Roots of Biological Dentistry
Biological dentistry has its roots in the pioneering work of Dr. Weston A. Price, who in the early 20th century documented the connection between dental infections — particularly root-canaled teeth — and systemic disease. Dr. Price's research, though controversial in mainstream circles, remains foundational to the biological dentistry movement.
Dr. Hal Huggins expanded this work by demonstrating the toxic effects of mercury amalgam fillings and developing protocols for safe removal. Dr. Francis Pottenger's nutrition studies further connected diet, dental health, and overall vitality. Dr. Reinhold Voll's research into the body's energy meridians established the tooth-organ relationship chart that biological dentists use to this day.
At Holistic Dental Associates, we stand on the shoulders of these pioneers. Our doctors pursue continuing education in biological dentistry principles, follow IAOMT guidelines for mercury-safe procedures, and integrate these principles into every aspect of patient care — from the composites we place to the way we extract a tooth.
We believe dentistry should follow the precautionary principle: when there is credible evidence that a material or procedure may harm systemic health, we choose the safer alternative — even if mainstream dentistry has not yet adopted the same position.

Ozone Therapy & PRF: Biological Healing
Ozone therapy is integral to our biological protocols. Medical-grade ozone (O₃) is a powerful antimicrobial that kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi on contact — without antibiotics or chemical agents. We use ozone in extractions, cavity preparation, periodontal treatment, and post-surgical disinfection. Ozone also stimulates circulation and supports tissue healing.
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is drawn from your own blood and concentrated into a fibrin membrane rich in growth factors, white blood cells, and stem cells. We place PRF into extraction sockets, bone graft sites, and surgical wounds to dramatically accelerate healing, reduce pain, and lower infection risk. PRF is 100% autologous — it comes from your own body, so there is zero risk of rejection or allergic reaction.
Together, ozone and PRF represent the biological alternative to pharmaceutical healing: natural, biocompatible, and effective.
Ceramic Implants: The Biological Standard
When a tooth cannot be saved, we recommend replacement with a metal-free ceramic (zirconia) implant. Unlike titanium, zirconia is a bioinert ceramic that does not conduct electricity, does not corrode, does not release metal ions, and does not interfere with the body's meridian energy system.
Ceramic implants integrate with bone (osseointegration) just as titanium does, but without the potential for galvanic currents, metal sensitivity, or autoimmune triggering that some patients experience with titanium. The soft tissue around ceramic implants also tends to heal more favorably, with less inflammation and better gingival attachment.
